Mini Pig!!!

As it was Chinese New Year - Year of the Pig, those kind people at Arenanet gave us saddo's yet another special event.

The New Year celebration weekend was good fun including lots of fun things such as Rollerbeetle racing.

The Celestial Pig visited and bestowed lots of goodies and a mini pet pig which I call Piggy Wiggy.

(Pic to Follow)

(Incedentally - Piggy Wiggy was the title bestowed on Napoleon Boneparte in one of my fave films - BILL and TEDS EXCELLENT ADVENTURES)

Pets in Guild Wars

To round off my current ramblings about guild wars, I thought that I would introduce you to another facet of this huge game. Pets. Certain characters can have Pets and all characters can have mini pets.

Mini pets are for show only, they have no use other than to show off and use up a storage space - I'm not a great fan of these!!

Pets however are great. You don't have to feed these pets, pay vet bills or take them for walkies. You can put them away and not use them and they won't mind. But what they do enjoy is a good fight.

You can select from a wide range of pets, including, a wolf, bear, crane, tiger, hyena, panther, lynx, lion, warthog, lizard, crocodile, crab etc etc.

Then there are the special pets. These are like the other pets, but are a bit harder to get hold of, so if you have one of these, it show you have worked a bit harder to get them. There is a giant spider, or a Phoenix, or the Black Moa each only found in one location. The picture above is the black moa, resplendent in Goth leg bands and choker!!

Your pets are your friend and will attack for you and grow in skill as you do - everyone should have one!!

Special Events

Guild Wars has Special Events throughout the year. They help keep the masses interested and give the regular users a chance to pick up something a bit different.

Here is a mask that I got for one of my characters last year. I've also managed to get various Halloween and Wintersday headgear such as Santa Hats and Pumpkin Heads. You can only get these for your characters during the special events.

These special events are also an opportunity to get hold of special items. For exaple this Wintersday, I got some Candy Cane Weapons and a Gingerbread Shield, as well as a potion that turns you into an elf!!!

None of these things are given away, you have to find them or earn them. Last Halloween the Mad King visited and had us jumping and shouting for his gifts!!

And during Wintersday I had to take Rudolph walkies on a quest to find some missing prezzies!!

And of course the towns and outposts get a makeover, as do the inhabitants like this frog who has his own little hat.
It's all good fun!!
Oh - before you ask what is Wintersday. This is the politically correct term the developers came up with for an Xmas type celebration that wouldn't offend!!

Mesmer

This is one of my Guild Wars characters - I have 9 altogether.

This one is a mesmer, a kind of a magician.

I had to work hard to get this "armour" for her LOL!! It comes in green as standard but I dyed it with blue and purple.

This cost a lot of "ingame" money but it was worth it I reckon!!

What is Guild Wars?

Guild Wars is an online role play game that you can play on your own, with friends, or with strangers for that matter!!!

It's immense fun and exceedingly addictive as my wife will testify!!

You take on the role of a character from one of the usual stable of choices, warrior, ranger, monk etc and can then modify that characters looks and name to suit your preferences.

Then you are ready to take on the wide world of guild wars. There are three "Chapters" to the game that can be bought which run independently of each other (if you only wanted to buy one) or together as upgrades.

As you progress your character finds new weapons learns new skills and can buy new armour and even find some Heros to help him / her out (Nightfall version only).

The game is massive and will keep you occupied for hours - days - months!!! Check out some of the fan sites or the official www.guildwars.com site.

I love this game and will play it over anything else that I have at the moment!!

the GILD

Nope, I haven't spelt it wrongly.

The Guild Wars world is cool. I love it. It's a real break from reality, a great way to unwind at the end of the day and a great way to make friends around the world.

I started playing this online game about 13 months ago and became a member of a Guild within the game which eventually ended up as GILD - Guards (United) In Lore Democracy (I didn't spell it wrongly - we were only allowed to use 4 letters for the anacronym!!)

These guys and gals are fab. We have members in GILD from all over the world, Russia, Holland, UK, Belgium to name but a few and we even have our own forum site here http://gild.forumup.com/. Please feel free to visit.

It's not just some saddo on line community either. Some of us have met in RL (Real life) and we often use Teamspeak to have a proper chat too!!!!

All in all - I recommend you look us up if you try this game out!!
